Olympics closing ceremony attracts record 26 million TV viewers in UK

London, Aug 14 (ANI): The closing ceremony of the London Olympics attracted a record 26 million viewers in the UK, the biggest audience compared to any other previous Olympics closing ceremony.

It almost equaled the number of viewers, who watched the opening, according to a report.

According to The Telegraph, the BBC said the audience peaked at 26.3 million at 9.35 p.m., as thousands of Olympic athletes from around the world streamed into the stadium while Elbow performed live.

The survey showed that an average British audience of 22.9 million tuned in during the evening to see the performances of Spice Girls, George Michael and Annie Lennox at the arena.

"Early indications are another stunning #BBC2012 ceremonies audience," Roger Mosey, Director of London 2012 at the BBC wrote on Twitter.

The 22.9 million figure represented an audience share of 81 percent and topped the previous highest number of UK viewers of an Olympics closing ceremony, which was Barcelona's in 1992, the paper said.

The ceremony that closed the Barcelona Games attracted an average British audience of 11 million, the paper added. (ANI)
