London, August 13 (ANI): A group supporting sex abuse victims wants to ban Mike Tyson from an event because he is a convicted rapist.
The 46-year-old former heavyweight world champion is due to speak during 'An Evening With Mike Tyson' at Barnsley's Metrodome in October.
The tickets of the speaking engagement will be costing up to 100 pounds.
Tyson, who served three years for raping 18-year-old Miss Black Rhode Island in an Indianapolis hotel, will be talking about his sporting career, the Sun reported.
But Lynne Casserly of 'Barnsley Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Service' opposed the event vehemently and claimed that nobody wants to listen to a rapist.
"Tyson is a convicted rapist and we struggle to see why anyone would want to listen to somebody like that," she said.
"People seem to be prepared to forgive and forget the crimes of celebrities. There is a big difference between being famous and being infamous," she said.
On the other hand the event's promoter Tony Dunn insisted that the sportsman will be talking only about his career.
"We don't want to offend anybody. He's talking purely about his achievements in the ring," he said.(ANI)
