Rogers Cup: Sania, Paes, Bhupathi and Bopanna move up

Montreal/Toronto, Aug 10 (IANS) India's Sania Mirza, Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have all moved up in the doubles event at the Rogers Cup tennis tournament here.

Sania and her American parnter Bethanie Mattek-Sands won their first round in the women's doubles against German Julia Goerges and her Czech Kveta Peschke 7-6 (1) and 6-3 here Thursday. The women's tournament is being held in Montreal.

The Indo-American pair, seeded seventh, needed a shade short of an hour and half to subdue Goerges and Peschke after a tough first-set tie-break.

Sania and Mattek-Sand will meet Slovak pair Daniela Hantuchova and Dominika Cibulkova.

In the men's doubles at Toronto, fifth seeds Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgewn Melzer received a walk-over from Canadian Milos Raonic and Serb Viktor Troicki, and the Indo-Austrian pair is through to the quarter-finals without entering the court as they had a first-round bye.

Paes and Melzer will take on third-seeded Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland who beat Mexican Santiago Gonzalez and AmericanScott Lipsky 7-5, 7-5.

Sixth seeds Bhupathi and Bopanna also got a bye in their first round match and they will now play Paul Australian Hanley and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic who beat Carlos Berlocq of Argentina and Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3, 7-5.
