British couple have 22 wedding ceremonies, eight more to go

London, Aug 9 (IANS) The wedding day is termed as the "happiest day" in one's life and you can't ever have enough of happiness. A British couple is celebrating their wedding by having 22 ceremonies in different countries -- and they still have eight more to go.

Alex Pelling, 32, and Lisa Grant, 30, from East Yorkshire, have been travelling all over the world since last summer getting married -- again and again, the Daily Mail reported.

They have covered over 55,000 km, and have been married among dolphins in Hawaii, dressed as vampires in Los Angeles, on an island in Honduras, in a crayfish-riddled lake in Michigan, in a vineyard in Quebec and on the beach in Mexico, among other places.

The couple - who have known each other for 11 years - said the idea came as they were looking for a place to get married.

They said wedding opportunities offered in Britain "did not suit" what they wanted, and so they decided to look for the perfect place to marry while they travelled.

They took a decision to have a small ceremony in every country they visit, with local cultures and traditions in mind.

Ever since their first wedding in Manchester, the couple have maintained a blog about their travels, and professional photographers have helped document the trip.

To fund the trip, the couple sold a car repair shop Alex owned and even their home, and have been travelling and living in a 25-year-old camper-van.

The couple say their Peru wedding was the "most emotional, touching and stunningly beautiful" -- and, therefore, probably their favourite.

One of the trickiest to organise was in Belize, where they wanted a ceremony with help from local Mayan people, but a week-long torrential downpour and a photographer stuck 600 km away hampered the proceedings.

The only unpleasant wedding guests were a thousand banana spiders in Honduras on the island of Utila, and a couple of smelly drunk fishermen in Chile.
