Kanpur/Siddarthnagar, Aug.8 (ANI): Floods continue to wreak havoc in Uttar Pradesh, as torrential rains paralysed the state, inundating several houses and rendering hundreds of villagers homeless.
Several villages in Kanpur district were submerged due to the floods.
Due to incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand and Nepal, major rivers of Uttar Pradesh - Ghaghra, Rapti and Saryu-were flowing above the danger mark.
A distressed villager expressed his apathy over the failure of the provincial government to deal with the worsening situation.
"Around 15 to 20 villages have been flooded with water," said Babu Ram, a local.
The flood situation deteriorated in Siddharthnagar district of the state following a continuous downpour resulting in the breach of under-construction embankments.
The state's Public Works Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav ensured that steps would be taken to deal with the situation.
"We will take adequate steps to deal with the worsening flood situation," said Yadav.
Reportedly, the water levels of Saryu and Ghaghra Rivers and its tributaries have crossed the danger mark at many places in the state.
Residents lamented over administration's apathy as several pockets of the state were battling with severe flooding.
The monsoon this year has caused heavy floods in northern, eastern and northeastern parts of India like West Bengal, Assam, claiming several lives and causing extensive damage to property. (ANI)
