Zardari's Rs.50m donation to Ajmer shrine leads to management dispute
Islamabad, Aug. 8 (ANI): The Rs.50 million donation made by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari to the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer, Rajasthan, has resulted in a tussle between two organisations handling the shrine's management.
According to The Express Tribune, the organisations are having differences over the entitlement of the donation, which Zardari had offered for the maintenance of the shrine.
A few days ago, a senior official of the Pakistani High Commission in India, Abrar Ahmed, had visited Ajmer to resolve the dispute.
The meeting with the shrine's management, however, did not yield any outcome, the paper said.
Ahmed told the shrine committee that the amount would be given at a ceremony on August 18.
Hassamuddin, the president of the Syed Zadgan Association, said all grants come to their organization, and warned that if their rights are violated, the association will think about attending the August 18 ceremony.
The shrine committee's head, Sohail Khan, said that not only the committees' Act, but also the Supreme Court, supports their stance.
Khan said he had forwarded a copy of the Act and the Supreme Court's verdict to the Pakistani High Commission.
He also revealed that the committee had forwarded the projects they had devised for the shrine's facelift, and added that if they get the amount, they will spend it for that purpose.
Zardari's attendant in the shrine, Iqbal Kaptaan, supported the association's stand, saying that donations are its right. (ANI)
