Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Aug.7 (ANI): Floods caused by incessant rainfall in the low-lying areas of Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal have left hundreds of families homeless.

A wall of the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology here also collapsed due to the heavy rains. Durga Nagar village was one of the worst affected by the floods.

Villagers expressed their distress over the deteriorating condition as people lost their lives and several of the families were rendered homeless.

"We were sitting in one room and my son and mother-in-law were sitting in the other room drinking tea. Suddenly a tower and other houses collapsed and everyone got trapped in it and we took them out somehow. Three-four people from the first floor of the building and my son and mother-in-law were trapped in the debris and we managed to take them out after an hour," said Mamata Sodhiya.

Water gushed into houses, increasing the woes of villagers. More than 40 houses have collapsed and several people are still trapped inside.

Rekha, a local resident, complained of rescue teams reaching more than two hours after the floods had hit the area. (ANI)
