New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) Popular Punjabi singer Mika has given his own twist to the "Vande Mataram" national song for an Independence Day special show "Azaadi", in which he also danced with paramilitary troopers.
"My tribute to 'Vande Mataram' is introspective. It is an honour to recreate a song of national importance. I hope that I have done justice to the original melody," Mika, who has scored chartbusters like "Mauja hi mauja", "Subah hone na de" and "Pungi", said in a statement.
Mika's version is peaceful yet celebratory, according a source from channel Life OK, on which "Azaadi" will be aired from Aug 12-15 every evening.
On the day of the shoot, Mika was accompanied by 500 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers singing and dancing to his tunes. The singer was even dressed in the blue uniform of the CRPF troopers.
The singer also interacted with the troopers and heard their experiences from the war fronts. He spoke to their family members and even made them shake a leg.
