Woman attempts self-immolation in Meerut

Lucknow, Aug 3 (IANS) Disturbed at her missing daughter not having been traced by police, a middle-aged woman Friday tried to set herself on fire at the office of the Meerut deputy inspector general of police (DIG). She was arrested.

The woman named Firdaus, a resident of Kithor area in Meerut, had lodged a first information report last month against four people for raping her daughter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) K. Satyanarayan told IANS.

Two people were arrested, while the other two are still on the run, he added.

Firdaus suspected that her missing daughter was kidnapped by the culprits.

Getting no response from the police in the case, she doused herself in kerosene and tried to self-immolate. A case of attempted suicide has been lodged against her.
