SIMI declared unlawful association

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declaration of SIMI as an unlawful association has been approved by the tribunal set up to examine the issue.

The tribunal pronounced its order on August 1. SIMI was for the first time declared an unlawful association on September 27, 2001.

The Ministry of Home Affairs vide notification dated February 3, 2012 had declared SIMI an unlawful association with immediate effect for two years, under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

As per provision of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, a tribunal consisting of Justice V.K. Shali, a sitting Judge of Delhi High Court was constituted to adjudicate whether there is sufficient cause for declaring the association unlawful. (ANI)
