Berger Paints to double capacity by 2013-end
Kolkata, Aug 2 (IANS) With its greenfield project in Andhra Pradesh to become operational by May next year, Kolkata-based Berger Paints will double its capacity to 42,000 tonnes per month by the end of 2013 at an investment of Rs.140 crore, a top company official said.
"With our new plant at Hindupur (in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur) becoming operational latest by May next year, and increase in the capacity of our existing plants, we will be doubling our capacity to 42,000 tonnes per month by the end of 2013," managing director and chief executive officer Abhijit Roy told mediapersons here Thursday.
Speaking at the company's 88th annual general meeting, Roy said 5000 tonnes of capacity each will be added to its plants in West Bengal (Hooghly) and Goa (North Goa) at a cost of Rs.30 crore for each plant. The capacity expansion at the Hindupur plant will cost Rs.80 crore.
The company is also looking to expand its distribution channel from the existing 12,000 dealers to 16,000 in the next four years.
Roy said the company was aiming to be among the top 25 paint companies in the world.
"Currently our market share in the decorative segment is 21 percent and our aim is to gain 0.5 percent to 0.6 percent year-on year for the next four years. By doubling our sales and capacity, our objective is to be in the top five companies in Asia and among the top 25 in the world," said Roy.
With several shareholders raising concern over the growing expenditure on raw materials, Roy said the company was exploring ways to cut this expenditure.
Observing that the rising inflation and the crude oil price may necessitate a hike in the prices of the company's products, Roy, however, said a price rise in the current quarter was "unlikely".
The company will also open a help centre in Kolkata by September to cater to the needs of consumers and dealers.
