Indian football coach Koevermans gets thumbs up from Gullit
Kolkata, July 29 (IANS) Praising Indian football coach and compatriot Wim Koevermans, Dutch legend Ruud Gullit Sunday called for developing infrastructure for the growth of the game in the country.
"I think Indian football is in good hands. The most important thing for the coaches in the country is to develop youth football because that is where it all starts. It's important to have training facilities and good pitches," Gullit told mediapersons here.
The 52-year-old Koevermans, a member of the Dutch team that won the European title at the 1988 European Football Championship under Gullit, was appointed Indian team coach coach in July.
Gullit, who wished and hoped to coach the Dutch national team in the future, said the best way to spot young talent was to know how much a youngster knows about the game.
"It is not about how many tricks a budding talent knows. It is more about how much he knows about the game, how much he understands football. The approach should be direct, it should be either about scoring goals or saving them,' added Gullit.
He was on a two day visit here during which he attended the final match of a 'para' (community) tournament.
