Zardari to attend Islamic meet in Saudi Arabia

Islamabad, July 29 (IANS) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will attend a two-day Islamic summit in Makkah in Saudi Arabia in August, Geo News reported.

Saudi king Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz has invited many Muslim leaders to attend the summit Aug 14-15, on the 27th day of the holy month of Ramadan.

The summit will discuss threats of fragmentation and sedition being faced by the Muslim world.

Diplomatic sources told The News International daily that Pakistan would also highlight the threats being faced by the country as well as the security situation in Afghanistan.

This will be the 12th summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) since its inception in 1969.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal said such a summit was essential to strengthen the unity of Muslims and serve the interests of Islam.
