Ghaziabad/Noida, July 26 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists blocked traffic movement in Ghaziabad and Noida in protest against the vandalisation of their party leader Mayawati's statue in Lucknow.

The BSP workers, under the leadership of BSP parliamentarian Munkad Ali, took out a procession on national highway-24 and staged a dharna at the highway toll bridge at Dasna.

As a result of the dharna, traffic movement on the highway came to a halt and remained so for about three hours. A long queue of vehicles formed on both sides of the toll bridge up to 10 km.

Traffic was backed up till Lal Kuan locality in Ghaziabad and up to Pilkhuwa on the Hapur road. After some time, senior police officers managed to convince the agitated workers to lift the blockade.

In Noida also, the BSP workers staged a dharna at Dalit Prerna Sthal and blocked traffic on the Greater Noida road. Traffic remained disrupted for more than an hour in the evening.

Four unidentified miscreants Thursday vandalised a life-size statue of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and BSP chief Mayawati in a Lucknow park.
