New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will visit ethnic violence-hit Assam's Kokrajhar District on Saturday to take stock of the volatile situation.
Meanwhile, the situation in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri district has improved to some extent and there have been no reports of violence today.
Curfew has been relaxed in Kokrajhar district till 12 noon, while in Chirang district it has been relaxed from 12 noon to 5.p.m.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited Kokrajhar and took stock of the situation. He met senior government officials and the inmates of the relief camps.
A 16 member delegation of state Legislative Assembly also visited Chirang district today. n Wednesday, Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh said the situation in Assam is "under control," and the miscreants "would not be spared."
"Situation is under control. Last night there were just two minor incidents of arson. The security forces have reached; many more companies are reaching. We have almost adequate number of forces on the ground. Trains have started moving. The situation is improving," Singh said.
On being asked if he has issued any instructions to Assam government over the issue, Singh informed that he has been in constant touch with the state authorities.
"I have been speaking to the Chief Secretary and the DGP of Assam. I have spoken to them a number of times. Day before yesterday, I spoke to Bodo leaders. Yesterday, I spoke to the Chief Minister," he revealed.
He also said 2,000 central security personnel have been deputed to guard Guwahati-bound trains and railway tracks, which were disrupted.
"We have asked the state government to book ring leaders of both sides so that violence can be checked immediately. No one involved in the violence will be spared," Singh said.
The Home Secretary also stated that there was no foreign hand involved behind the ethnic violence.
According to police officials, the latest wave of violence was sparked last week when unidentified men killed four youth in the state's Bodo tribe-dominated Kokrajhar District near the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan.
In retaliation, armed Bodos attacked Muslims, suspecting them to be behind the killings. (ANI)
