Indian govt to open first pension scheme overseas center for expats in Dubai

Dubai, July 25 (ANI): The Indian Government has planned to open a center in Dubai to enroll thousands of expatriate workers in its new pension scheme.

The voluntary scheme, named Pension and Life Insurance Fund (PLIF), will help the skilled and unskilled Indian workers to save money for their old age, to have financial means when they go back home and a life insurance cover for Rs 100,000 during their work abroad.

About 65 percent of over two million Indians in the UAE are blue collar workers and they will get an early opportunity to enroll in the scheme, The Gulf News reports.he Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), which introduced the scheme, said that the enrolment center to be opened in the UAE would be the first overseas center for the purpose.

The Indian Embassy is considering Dubai to set up the enrolment center for the scheme because of the presence of large number of Indian workers in the city and northern emirates. (ANI)
