New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Tuesday sought assistance from the central government for road projects in his state.
He also suggested that the central road transport and highways ministry should consider assigning the supervision works of National Highway 44 to the state public works department.
The chief minister, in a letter to union Road Transport and Highways Minister C. P. Joshi, apprised him about the pending sanction concerning a reconstrunction of a bridge on National Highway 62.
Sangma also urged Joshi to consider converting 26 semi-permanent timber bridges on NH 62 into permanent structures.
According to a press release, the chief minister expressed his gratitude to Joshi for declaring Srirampur-Dhubri-Phulbari-Tura-Rongram-Rongjeng-Nongstoin road, which covers 361 km of his northeastern state, as National Highway 127-B.
He said the move will help promote trade and commerce not just within the north eastern region but with neigbouring countries also.
