Sydney, July 24 (ANI): Former Guantanamo detainee David Hicks has said his name has finally been cleared to make profits from his book after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) dropped his case.

According to news.com.au, Hicks was stopped from earning profits from his controversial book, Guantanamo: My Journey, that reveals details of his six years at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

The DPP had till now frozen his profits from the book under proceeds of crime laws.

"Today has shown that the DPP have no evidence that I've committed any crime," Hicks said outside the court.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Peter Garling had previously issued a restraining order relating to Lakeside Pty Ltd and Misha Family Trust after the DPP made an application under the federal proceeds of crime act, which aims to prevent criminals profiting from their crimes.

Lionel Robberds QC told Justice Garling the DPP would not be pursing the matter.

The book is believed to have sold about 30,000 copies and generated about 10,000 dollars for Hicks.

The autobiography recounts his early years growing up in Adelaide, his conversion to Islam to gain a sense of belonging and his travels to Kosovo and Kashmir to help suffering civilians.

Hicks spent more than five years in the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba after being arrested in Afghanistan in 2001.

After a plea deal in which he admitted to providing material support for terrorism he was sent to Adelaide's Yatala Prison in April 2007.

He was released in December 2007. (ANI)
