US has 'pretty good fix' on location of Syria's weapon stockpile

Washington, July 20 (ANI): The U.S. and allied intelligence agencies know the location of most of Syria's chemical and biological weapons.

Fox News quoted current and former Obama administration officials, as saying: "We monitor very closely their chemical weapons."

A former Obama administration official, who worked on Mideast issues, also agreed: "We have a pretty good fix on where most of them are."

According to the report, this will give Western powers a better chance to monitor them if President Bashar al-Assad is toppled from office and leaves a power vacuum.

Senior U.S. officials also confirmed that the U.S. is in discussions with Israel about the possibility of the latter moving in to destroy Syria's chemical weapon stockpiles.

American diplomats are working through the 'Friends of Syria' Group and with allied nations like Israel, Turkey, France and Great Britain to build a 'network of support' for post-Assad Syria.

At a State Department briefing, spokesman Patrick Ventrell said the administration still does not know the whereabouts of Assad in the wake of an attack that killed several high-ranking regime officials. (ANI)
