New York, July 20 (ANI): Morgan Freeman is the latest celebrity who has donated 1 million dollars to President Barack Obama's Priorities USA Action.
According to Politico, the star of the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," made the huge donation to help fund Obama's re-election campaign later this year.
"President Obama has done a remarkable job in historically difficult circumstances," the New York Daily News quoted Freeman as saying in a statement to the publication, noting the president's actions to end combat operations in Iraq and rescue the auto industry, among others.
"In return, he is the target of hundreds of millions of dollars from right-wing sources. I am proud to lend my voice - and support - to those who defend him," he said.
The donation comes after the actor made waves by suggesting that Obama is not America's first black president.
The actor, who played the U.S. president in the disaster flick "Deep Impact," noted that Obama's mother was both American and white as he was criticising the so-called birther movement for its suspicions about his citizenship. (ANI)
