Don't mix politics with sports: Digvijay Singh

New Delhi, Mon, 16 Jul 2012 ANI

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday supported the resumption of bilateral cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, asserting that sports and politics should not be mixed.

Interacting with journalists here, Singh said, "India-Pakistan cricket must happen. Sports and politics should not be mixed. Sporting ties will help in improving Indo-Pak relations."

On being quizzed about his recent comments of party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi adopting a "more proactive role," Singh said his views are a manifestation of what a grassroots level Congress worker feels.

"What I have said is a reflection of grassroots level Congress workers and middle rung leadership," he said.

Earlier in the day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Working Committee decided to host Pakistan for a three-match one-day series and two T20 internationals in the third week of December, ending a five-year moratorium on bilateral cricket between the two neighbours. (ANI)
