Pak flays West for giving India 'undue, unjustified' preference in nuclear policies

Islamabad, Sat, 14 Jul 2012 ANI

Islamabad, July 14 (ANI): Pakistan's Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar has said that discriminatory nuclear policies of the international community would lead to a strategic imbalance in the region, therefore India must not be given undue and unjustified preferences over Pakistan, according to a report.

Qamar, while addressing a conference on the 'Applications of Nuclear Science and Technology,' also pointed out that Pakistan has effectively used its nuclear power as a deterrent besides using the technology for civilian purposes.

He also said that as long as an arms race is imposed on Pakistan, national security would remain the country's foremost priority, the Daily Times reports.

According to the paper, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Sumsam Bukhari stated while 'at the international level we (Pakistanis) are referred to as terrorists, the facts remains that we are the victims of terrorism'.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr Ansar Parvez stressed that the commission was striving for the use of nuclear science and technology for the socio-economic development of Pakistan. (ANI)
