PPP to 'soften' stance over Swiss letter to reopen graft cases against Zardari

Lahore, July 12 (ANI): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership has decided to avoid any further confrontation with the Supreme Court regarding the apex court's order in the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) case and to leave the final decision of writing a letter to Swiss authorities with the federal cabinet.

According to PPP sources, if the cabinet unanimously decides to write a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, a commission would be constituted to prepare a draft of the said letter and then it would be sent to the Swiss authorities, reports the Daily Times.

Even though the PPP leadership has decided to stick with its core stance of constitutional restrictions on writing the letter, it would show some 'soft gestures' before the court, as compared to the position taken by disqualified prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, the paper said.

During the last hearing, the apex court had given a deadline of July 12 to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to decide whether he would comply with the orders of the court by writing a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against Zardari. (ANI)
