Cricketers unpaid by Bangladesh Premier League

Sydney, July 11 (ANI): A dozen cricketers are still waiting to be paid by the Bangladesh Premier League, in a situation which is now being described as a "joke" by the players' union

Australians Brad Hogg, Brad Hodge and Shane Harwood played in February's inaugural Bangladesh Twenty20 competition, which owes some 600,000 dollars to a dozen internationals.

Organisers have also been accused of paying local Bangladeshi players less than 60 per cent of their entitled wages.

The Australian Cricketers' Association said either Hogg or Hodge hasn't been paid.

"My understanding is that one of them has been paid and the other hasn't," ACA chief executive Paul Marsh told AAP, adding he didn't want to name the unpaid player.

None of the cricketers in the T20 tournament have received a certificate for payments of withholding tax, despite the six Bangladeshi franchises claiming to have deducted the tax - some 25 per cent of salaries.

The Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA) said it would support the unpaid players in legal action against the franchises and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

FICA chief executive Tim May said all players would also be warned against competing in future tournaments, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

May said franchises, the Bangladesh board and its president Mustafa Kamal had made numerous promises to pay the players. (ANI)
