Federer's win over Murray in Wimbledon final watched by 16.9 million in UK

London, July 10 (ANI): The Wimbldeon 2012 final which saw Swiss ace Roger Federer defeat Andy Murray was reportedly watched by a peak audience of 16.9 million viewers in the UK, according to overnight figures.

The peak came towards the end of the match, while the average audience across the four set stand-off was over 11.4 million.

According to the BBC, figures revealed that the Wimbledon final was the second most watched programme, behind England vs Italy in Euro 2012, in June, which attracted an average audience of 20.3m viewers on the BBC, with a peak of 23.2 million.

Federer beat Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday to win 17 Grand Slams now while Murray, who became the first British man in 74 years to reach the Wimbledon singles final, has now lost all four of his grand slam finals.

The highest average figure for a Wimbledon final was 17.3 million when Bjorn Borg beat John McEnroe in 1980. (ANI)
