Murderous attack on senior UP official at his office

Lucknow, July 6 (IANS) A senior Uttar Pradesh government official was attacked and seriously injured Friday at his office in Gorakhpur, police said.
The attack took place amidst tight security at the office of the assistant commissioner (Food and Civil Supply) when a man armed with an iron rod barged into the office.
Before those present at the office could understand anything, he attacked the officer and hit him repeatedly with the iron rod on his head. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gorakhpur Ashutosh Kumar told IANS that the man has been arrested and the officer has been admitted to a city hospital with head injuries and a fractured hand.
Cantonment police, handling the case, said that the assailant was angry with the assistant commissioner for cancelling his shop's license a few weeks ago. He had also appealed to the officer to restore his license but the officer had dismissed his petition.
Gorakhpur is 300 km from Lucknow.
