Lucknow, July 2 (IANS) At least a dozen Unani and Ayurvedic doctors were injured in clashes with the police here after hundreds of medics, including women, tried to stage protest in front of Uttar Pradesh assembly demanding better pay.

The doctors were agitating for removal of alleged pay scale discrepancies and for making their jobs permanent.

As they moved towards the Vidhan Sabha building, the police put up barricades and tried to stop them, leading to a clash between them and the doctors.

Many doctors were hurt in the clash and about a dozen with injuries were admitted to nearby facilities, police said.

The doctors demanded that a senior official from the government meet them and address their problems. They were chased by baton wielding police when they tried to move towards the Vidhan Sabha.
