Air India pilots adamant about continuing indefinite hunger strike
New Delhi, July 1 (ANI): As the indefinite hunger strike by the agitating Air India pilots entered its eighth day here on Sunday, the protesting pilots are determined to continue with their protest intact until their demands are met.
Despite their worsening heath -seven pilots were admitted to hospital as their condition deteriorated-they remain relentless in their pursuit.
One of the protesting pilots, Rohit expressed his ire over the Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, who is currently in London.
"After eight days, seven of our fasting pilots have been hospitalised. Doctors were little tensed and said that these people should not have fasted, but the pilots were determined to continue with their fast till the time the Civil Aviation Minister talks to us," he said.
Meanwhile, a doctor, Abhishek Jaiswal briefed reporters about the health of the admitted pilots and said the rest of the pilots were fine as they had recently started to fast.
"Rest of the pilots are in the normal condition because few of them started fasting for the past two days and some from three days. Their blood sugar level is below normal, but it's ok," said Dr. Jaiswal.
Earlier on Monday, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said the hunger strike was avoidable and needless.
Singh had called the strike 'illegal and unlawful', for violating the High Court's order, which had directed the pilots to return to work.
About 500 Air India pilots who fly international routes have been demanding their colleagues from former state-owned partner Indian Airlines should not be trained to fly Dreamliners, as it may mar the career prospects of original Air India flight crew. (ANI)
