Lucknow, June 29 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government will begin disbursing the unemployment allowance to applicants in the state from July, an official said Friday.
A senior official told IANS that work on payment of the allowance was in the final phase. He added that so far 22,000 applications submitted to employment exchanges in different districts of the state have been shortlisted and approved for the allowance.
Officials say that while selection for the allowance would be conveyed to the unemployed next month, the payment would be made into their bank accounts only in October.
Ever since the Samajwadi Party (SP) came to power, the employment offices have been flooded with applicants from all over the state. In the face of heavy rush, the state government has, from time to time, revised the basic prerequisites for the allowance.
The age for the allowance has been fixed between 35-45 years and the basic educational qualification at high school (Class 10) pass.
The government has also fixed an income ceiling for the parents, husband or wife of the beneficiaries. In Lucknow, only 122 forms have met the conditions laid down in the rules for the unemployment allowance.
