London, June 29(ANI): Super rich French club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) is set to challenge English Premier League champions Manchester City for the signing of Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie.
PSG club director Leonardo has made cautious enquiries about the Holland international's availability this summer, The Daily Mail reports.
The Ligue 1 club was initially told the Gunners had no intention of selling their skipper, but the ongoing uncertainty over Van Persie's future has led to PSG regenerating their interest.
PSG, who are financially backed by mega-rich Qatari Investment Authority, have the funds to compete with big-spending City.
But Van Persie has made it clear he will only leave Arsenal to join a title-challenging club in a major European league.
Manchester City is preparing a formal 20 million pound offer for the striker, who has a year left on his contract, and is stalling on a new three-year deal worth 130,000 pounds-per-week plus a five million pound bonus. (ANI)
