Indian-origin man crushed to death after container truck rolls onto his car in Australia

Sydney, June 29 (ANI): An Indian-origin man was crushed to death after a 20-tonne container laden with timber fell off a truck and crushed his stationary car in Liverpool yesterday.

According to news.com, the victim was identified, as Manoj Masih, a father of an eight-month-old baby boy.

According to reports, the accident occurred on the Hume Highway at Liverpool, just before 11 a.m. when Masih was sitting in his stationary car at a traffic light signal in Liverpool.

The truck driver told police that his load of timber shifted, forcing the semi-trailer to roll over on a busy Liverpool intersection.

The 46-year-old truck driver has been discharged from hospital last night and is today expected to give a formal statement on the accident.

Masih's distraught wife Rachel said her husband was on his way to Cabramatta to help a friend who was having some problem with his car.

She said she knew something was wrong when she kept calling him and he did not answer.I spoke to him at 10 a.m., and I asked when he would be home. He said he was on his way home," Mrs. Masih said.

Masih said that when he did not arrive by 2 p.m. she thought it was strange, but guessed he may have stopped to help another friend with their car.

Crash investigator Stephen Blair said it was one of the worst accidents he had ever seen.

"This rates at the top of the order, to see a horrific thing like this with the vehicle crushed nearly beyond recognition," Inspector Blair said.

"This is a tragic event that's happened once again on our roads - innocent people have been sitting in their cars and through no fault of their own have been hurt or killed," he added. (ANI)
