Abraham Lincoln-signed copy of Emancipation Proclamation fetches $2mln at auction

Washington, June 27 (ANI): A rare original copy of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, ordering the freeing of slaves, has been sold for over two million dollars at a New York auction.

David Rubenstein, managing director of the Carlyle Group private equity, firm snapped upthe document issued in 1863.

The bidding took place at the Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, Manhattan.

According to The New York Daily News, it is the second-highest price ever paid for a Lincoln-signed proclamation.

Another copy of the proclamation owned by the late Senator Robert Kennedy fetched 3.8 million dollars two years ago. (ANI)
