Drunk Russian killed for attacking cops with axe

Moscow, June 27 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A drunk man in Russia attacked police officers with an axe and a pitchfork, forcing the policemen to shoot him dead, officials said.

The man from a village in southern Russia's Krasnodar region threatened to shoot dead his wife and mother-in-law with a hunting rifle.

A police patrol that arrived at the scene discovered that the women managed to snatch away and unload the gun, but were not able to calm the man down.

The man resisted arrest by threatening the police officers with an axe.

Police fired in the air repeatedly to stop the man, who instead added a pitchfork to his arsenal, and charged at the officers with the farm tools in his hands.

One of the policemen eventually shot the man in the leg, but even that did not stop his pitchfork charge. Another officer then shot him in the stomach, killing him on the spot.
