Visakhapatnam, June 25 (ANI): An auto cross racing event in Visakhapatnam registered record footfalls and stunned spectators due to the variety of adventurous thrills performed by participants.

The event's success has prompted the organisers to plan out many more such races, so as to promote adventure activities in the state.

"This is the first auto cross event, which we are participating in Visakhapatnam. As of now, Vizag hasn't witnessed many auto cross events. Since this is the first event, the crowd is pretty less, but we are hoping that such an event would increase the motor sport quality," said Mahesh, a participant.

There were a few who believed that safety precautions were essential for the smooth functioning of such events.

According to media reports, two children who had come to watch the event sustained injuries, when a motorcar jumped off a makeshift track.

"Those who are participating are not taking proper care; they are driving very rashly on streets and racing without safety measures. That is not good at all. For example, Hyderabad, Vizag, Coimbatore, they are doing wheelies and drifts without professional help. They go on ramp cars, dividers, they go fast, lose control; they should not do all that," said Shantanu, a participant.

The main racing event was organised for the first time at Andhra University Engineering College Grounds. (ANI)
