Children throng Olympic Day Run in Vizag

Vizag, June 24 (ANI): Thousands of children participated in an Olympic Day Run here on Sunday to celebrate the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on this day in 1894.

The objective of the marathon was to promote interest in sports and to promote an Olympic spirit in the city.

"This year also we are expecting huge turnout of children. This is an expression of solidarity with the sports and the sports loving people. This day Olympic Day is conducted in all districts and all states of the world," Harshavardhan Prasad, president of District Olympic Association, said.

Several elderly people along with specially- abled persons participated in the marathon with the children.

"I am participating with my granddaughter in the support of the Olympics Games," Satyanarayan, a local, said.

The District Olympic Association would reward the children with cash prize for their efforts.

Olympic Day Run is an international Olympic movement activity promoting mass participation of people in sports. (ANI)
