Footie fans' 'snubbed' wives flood extra marital dating site during Euro 2012

London, Fri, 22 Jun 2012 ANI

London, June 22 (ANI): It seems that the other halves of the football crazy men, who don't share their passion, have found a way to 'have some fun of their own'.

For extra marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com has revealed that their membership has soared during Euro 2012, as neglected football widows seek attention online.

Sarah from Manchester who didn't want to reveal her full identity, said that she is one of the women who has logged on to the website to 'seek some fun' while her oblivious husband is engrossed in the football tournament.

"I was sick and tired of being treated as second best to "the beautiful game" and during the first England game of Euro 2012 I thought sod it! I knew what it was going to be like for the rest of the tournament, let alone the rest of the season, so I thought I'd go seek some fun of my own," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.

"I got a huge buzz when I was sat next to my husband on the same sofa during the process of filling out my personal profile, though he's usually down the pub watching the matches," she said.he 35-year-old, who has been married for seven years and has children with her partner, said that going on the website is a way to avoid her marriage breaking down.

"I do love my husband and I don't want to leave him and split up the family which would unsettle the kids. I just need some light relief myself to make this marriage work. He has the football, I have my dates," she said.

IllicitEncounters.com is the UK's largest dating site for married people.

The site claims that their members have "one thing in common - they are all looking for a little romance outside their current relationship. Whether that's the occasional bit of flirtatious chat, a regular coffee date, or a full-blown affair, that's up to them."

For Sarah, being a member of the site has led to only two dates so far but she "hasn't taken them further". However she does admit that, "if I meet the right guy with time I imagine I will."

"I know it's a huge step, and a dangerous one, to make but I'm very careful and don't plan on getting caught out. At the moment it's just a lot of fun, a boost for the ego and something to do whilst my husband is too wrapped up in the footie to notice," she said.

While Sarah's confession may seem shocking, figures from IllicitEncounters.com reveal that she is not the only one who is looking for some excitement online.

The website, which was established in 2003 and has more than 680,000 members, reported a 77 percent rise in female activity during match times since Euro 2012 began.

Since the start of the tournament, they have seen above average numbers of women logging on, especially during England matches.

When England played France on 11th June, viewing figures peaked at 15.3million viewers which inturn, ignited a 72 percent rise in female activity on the website.

Then when the England against Sweden match took place on June 15, viewing figures topped 16.2million, with a 76 percent rise in females on Illicit Encounters.

In the final group match when England beat Ukraine on Tuesday, 18.5million viewers tuned in while there was a rise of 82 percent on the average activity for women on the website.

"People's interest in football is obviously on the rise, but so is the number of women who feel put out by their husband's obsession with the game," Rosie Freeman-Jones of Illicit Encounters said.

"Some new females have actually been surprisingly explicit about what lead them to join the site, citing instances where they were neglected while their partner spent hours at the pub, or those when they were completely ignored at home, apart from the occasional request for beer and snacks.

"Perhaps these figures will serve as a wake-up call to British men - if you don't pay attention to these ladies, they'll go and find someone who will. Preferably someone who's into salsa dancing or gardening," she added. (ANI)
