Czech Republic,Sports, Fri, 22 Jun 2012 IANS

Prague, June 22 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Czech Republic defender Theodor Gebre Selassie has left Czech champions Slovan Liberec to join Werder Bremen, the German club announced Friday.

The Czech-born right-back, whose father is Ethiopian, played all four games for the Czech Republic at Euro 2012, where they lost 0-1 to Portugal in Thursday's quarter-final.

Gebre Selassie, 25, signed a four-year contract at Werder after turning down several other clubs, the club said.

"We are pleased that we were able to convince Theodore to choose Werder Bremen despite plenty other offers," coach Klaus Allofs was quoted as saying.

"He is a very talented right-back who has confirmed our good impression of him with his good performance at the European Championships."

Gebre Selassie won the Czech league title with Slovan last year, making 30 appearances and scoring five goals.

Four-time Bundesliga winners Werder finished ninth place this season, and suffered a humiliating German Cup exit at the hands of third-tier Heidenheim.
