London, June 19 (ANI): British actor Andrew Garfield has spoken about the pressure of playing a comic book character that was his hero while growing up.

On the red carpet at 'The Amazing Spider-Man' premiere in London's Leicester Square, the 28-year-old actor talked of the immense pressure he was feeling now that audiences will judge his performance as the superhero.

"I grew up with Spider-Man. He was an important symbol in my life growing up... plus I was blown away by Tobey Maguire's interpretation," Sky News quoted him as saying.

"I feel immense pressure, like how Peter Parker feels I think," he said.

There is also high expectations from the film as it has a huge and dedicated comic book following.

It is only five years since the last Spiderman movie starring Maguire was released but the latest movie does not follow on from the previous films but rather it is a "re-boot" of the tale.

The new film tells the Spider-Man story as if the previous three movies do not exist.

The 'Help' star Emma Stone plays Spider-Man's love interest Gwen Stacy, but in an interesting twist in the original tale she falls for Peter Parker rather than the superhero alter ego in the latest version.

Stone and Garfield fell in love on and off set, and while they were coy about their relationship they only had glowing endorsements for each other.

"She's a fantastic actress and a fantastic human being," Garfield said of Stone, who echoed his compliments.

"We were allowed to improvise a lot. It was wonderful. It was very, very special and we learned a lot," Stone added.

The Amazing Spider-Man - from the director of 500 Days of Summer Marc Webb - will be hitting theatres in UK on July 3. (ANI)
