One injured, seven missing in Bengal accident

Siliguri, June 14 (IANS) One person was injured and seven others were missing after the car they were travelling in fell into the Teesta river in Kalimpong of West Bengal's Darjeeling district Thursday, police said.

The car skidded into the river at Kirne near West Bengal's border with Sikkim. "The occupants were travelling from Jorethang in south Sikkim to Gangtok," chief of Kalimpong police station Prasad Pradhan said.

An injured passenger was rescued and admitted to a nursing home, he added.

"Police of both the states have been conducting an intense search in the river for the victims. All nearby police stations have been alerted," Pradhan said.
