Dehradun, June 12 (ANI): Congress leader Harish Rawat on Tuesday hit out at Team Anna for maligning the image of existing democratic institutions.

Emphasizing that the Central Government is determined to fight against corruption and bring back the black money stashed away in safe havens abroad, Rawat asked the civil society activists to adopt a positive approach to root out corruption from the country.

"Instead of levelling allegations against team Anna, I would like to request him that they should adopt a positive approach. The government is trying to fight against corruption and also trying to bring back the black money by enacting laws. They should create awareness among the public," said Rawat.

"The country will not tolerate if they will be involved in the blame game and will try to tarnish the image of the parliament, post of the Prime Minister and other ministers," he added.

Rawat further criticized Team Anna for working towards the destruction of the existing democratic institutions.

"I think that Team Anna is determined to destroy the existing institutions and they want to sow the seeds of instability. The country understands their intentions. It is not in the interest of the country to defame the office of the Prime Minister," he added.

Rawat urged the people of the country to raise their voice against those, who aim to weaken the existing institutions.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had earlier written a letter to social activist Anna Hazare rejecting all corruption charges levelled against the Prime Minister over the alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks.

The letter, written by Minister of State in the PMO V Narayanasamy, says that the allegations seem to be based on the leaked report of the Comptroller and Auditor General or CAG and media reports and no evidence has been provided to support the allegations.

The letter also says the coal blocks were allocated in accordance with the laid down rules and was done in public interest.

The Prime Minister has been under fire from Team Anna over the auction of coal blocks during the period he held the coal portfolio. (ANI)
