Moderate earthquake shakes Jammu and Kashmir, no damages reported

Srinagar, June 11(ANI): Multiple tremors measuring 5.7 and 5.4 magnitude jolted Kashmir valley on Monday, as panic-stricken locals ran out of their homes here.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicentre of the quake was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The 5.4 magnitude tremor had a depth of 19.4 miles.

Another tremor, measuring 5.7 on Richter Scale hit after an interval of about 25 minutes.

Residents rushed out of the buildings and those who were driving halted their vehicles and came out in the open.

Director of Seismology at the India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, R. S. Dattatreya confirmed there were no damages.

"The two earthquakes have struck within a very short span of time and they were both moderate in magnitude. However, as far as damage is concerned, there was none," he said.

Media reports said quivers were also felt in certain areas of Pakistan including, Mardan, Charsadda and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. (ANI)
