Melbourne, June 11 (ANI): The Australian Olympian who had private photographs of him having sex with his wife stolen by staff at a computer store has approached the police.

It is understood that he was unaware of the controversy until The Daily Telegraph contacted him.

Now, he has engaged top lawyers to try to recover the pictures and pursue the matter further.

The sport star regards the photos, which show him and his wife engaged in intimate acts, as highly personal and is upset they have been accessed by store staff after he took his computer in to be repaired.

The existence of the photographs came to light after a report in The Sunday Telegraph. The report said it was common practice for staff at the store to scan clients' computers for compromising images and video.

It is also believed other celebrities and members of the public were caught up in the computer shop scam.

However, under Section 308H of the Crimes Act 1900, it appears the unauthorised copying of images from someone's computer is only illegal if the data is protected by an access control system.

But when confronted by the paper the store's owner denied copying the images and said: "If people choose to put photos and personal information on their computers that's their decision."

Meanwhile the theft of the photos has angered readers of the paper, who demanded that the computer store be named and shamed and the government take action to close any loophole allowing the shop to steal personal photographs. (ANI)
