Coalgate: Left dissatisfied with PMO's reply

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) is not satisfied with the Prime Minister Office's (PMO) explanation over the multi-billion coal scam, senior CPM leader Brinda Karat said here on Sunday.

Interacting with mediapersons, Karat said, "In its final report, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has stated that more than one lakh crore rupees was lost in coal blocks allocation when Prime Minister was holding the coal portfolio. We want to know the facts. We want more answers from the government. The matter would not rest with a PMO letter."

The CPM will launch a weeklong demonstration during the parliament's monsoon session in July to protest against rotting of food grains and rising prices.

Senior CPM leader Sitaram Yechury confirmed the weeklong demonstration.

"It is a very strange that while we have bumper production of crop, food grains are rotting in godowns and people are dieing of hunger and prices are rising. We have been putting pressure on the government. We have decided to launch a weeklong demonstration during the monsoon session in July," Yechury said.

The CPM also took a dig at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that Modi might be using Centre to attack his party members.

"I don't know whether is he attacking the Central government or his own party leaders. He might have been using Central government as a ploy to attack his party leaders," Yechury added.

Refuting media reports, the party said it hadn't received any proposal about the nominee of the presidential candidate.

"We have received no proposal about the nominee of the presidential candidate. We have said it many times that the president should be elected with a wider consensus," he said. (ANI)
