'Optimistic' Modi attacks Congress ahead of Gujarat Assembly polls

Rajkot , Sun, 10 Jun 2012 ANI

Rajkot, June 10 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lashed out at the Centre on issues of development and economy, adding that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is "optimistic" about winning this year's state assembly elections.

Speaking on the second day of a two-day state executive meeting here, Modi said the Congress party at the Centre has "disappointed" people, and blamed the ruling dispensation for the current economic slowdown.

"We are optimistic about winning the 2012 assembly polls. We will not let corruption flourish in Gujarat. Congress has disappointed the people. Gujarat is setting an example in areas of development and growth," Modi said.

He accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of misleading the country on battling inflation, and blamed the Centre for the price rise and rupee devaluation.

"People of this country are fed up with the government. Congress leaders and ministers are not able to give solutions to any problem," he added.

Modi further asserted that the BJP will "follow the path of Sadbhavna and carry forward the development model in Gujarat."

He suggested that the least the UPA-II Government could do was to bring the prices down to the level that existed during the NDA rule of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Meanwhile, more pro-Sanjay Joshi posters, apparently targeting Narendra Modi appeared in various parts of the city and near the BJP executive meeting venue at the Atmiya College Campus here on Sunday.

The BJP had on Friday confirmed Joshi's resignation from the party.

According to sources, Joshi would be rejoining the RSS, where he along with another stalwart Suresh Soni will be the coordinators between the RSS and BJP and would decide the party's future strategy from an organisational point of view. (ANI)
