Maoist leader arrested in Jharkhand

Ranchi, June 9 (IANS) A Maoist commander wanted in 30 criminal cases, including murder and extortion, was Saturday arrested in Jharkhand, police said.

Laka Pahan, the zonal commander of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a Maoist group, was arrested from border region of Ranchi and Khunti districts, police said.

He was arrested in a special anti-Maoist combing operation launched in bordering jungle areas of both the districts. Pahan was wanted in 30 criminal cases, including of murder and extortion.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
