Chandigarh, June 7 (IANS) The Punjab government has pruned the list of dignitaries who are allowed to use red beacons on their official vehicles, a government spokesman said Thursday. The vehicles found using red beacons unauthorisedly will be impounded.

The move came after Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the home minister, issued direction in this regard to prevent the unauthorised use of red beacons.

The spokesman said that all stickers issued earlier, which allowed the use of red beacons, had been cancelled and new ones would be issued to authorised dignitaries only.

He said the beacon would have to be covered with a black cover if the official concerned was not travelling.
