Maoist activist nabbed in Assam

Guwahati, June 6 (IANS) A Maoist activist who had received arms training in Bihar was Wednesday arrested from Assam's Guwahati district, police said.

Naresh alias Mainul Islam was arrested from Dhirenpara area in Guwahati. Islam held organisational responsibilities in his outfit and was spreading the Maoist ideology among the people, police said.

According to police, he had received arms training in Bihar in 2007.

Maoists have been expanding base in seven districts of Assam.

Earlier on Sunday, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) arrested a Maoist leader from upper Assam's Golaghat district.
