Nikon to hike prices if rupee slump continues

Kolkata, June 6 (IANS) Japanese imaging major Nikon, which recently raised prices of select digital SLR camera models in India, Wednesday said another hike was likely if the rupee continued its slump against the US dollar.

Nikon, a market leader in the digital SLR camera segment in the country, recently increased prices of select high-end digital SLR models by 7 to 8 percent.

"The rupee falling has been a matter of serious concern for us. If the trend continues, then another price hike is possible," Nikon India managing director Hiroshi Takashina told reporters on the sidelines of an event here to launch the D3200 digital SLR camera.

The rupee has been steadily losing ground against the dollar over the last two months.

Company sources cautioned that a second round of price hikes might range across models.

"This time we may raise prices across models to offset the rupee's slide," said a top company official.
