Congress not to field candidate against SP's Dimple Yadav in Kannauj by-polls

Lucknow, June 5 (ANI): The Congress has decided not to field its candidate in the Kannauj by-polls against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi confirmed that her party had decided not to field a candidate for the Kannauj by-election.

It will be Dimple's second attempt to enter the Lok Sabha. She had contested the 2009 Firozabad by-election, but lost to Congress candidate Raj Babbar.

The Kannauj parliamentary constituency fell vacant after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha on being sworn in as a member of the UP Legislative Council and after becoming the State's chief minister.

Kannauj is considered a safe seat for Dimple, as Akhilesh Yadav has represented it thrice. (ANI)
