Sydney, Jun 5(ANI): Former captain Chris Gayle has been named in the West Indies one-day squad, scheduled to play England later this month after a long absence of 14 months.
Gayle, whose row with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) resulted in him being barred for almost a year, was included in a 15-man squad announced on Monday for the three-match series that begins on June 16.
Gayle, who has been one of the most successful batsman for the Windies, played his last match for the Windies in March last year i.e. the quarter-final defeat to Pakistan in the World Cup.
He was critical of the WICB in a radio interview after the World Cup, following his oversight from the subsequent one-day series at home against Pakistan, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Those comments, many unreceptive to coach Ottis Gibson, led to his lengthy spell out of the team, and Gayle instead played well-paid Twenty20 tournaments in India, Zimbabwe, Australia and Bangladesh.
In March, a meeting between Gayle and the WICB, facilitated by CARICOM ministers, cleared the way for his return.
Last Sunday, the few residual matters in the long-running impasse were sorted out to clear the way for his return. (ANI)
